Rat control :

Rat or rodent infestation is the most common problem in the US household. Rats, although they look pretty harmful, actually carry with them numerous diseases that can be dangerous especially if you have kids in the house. That’s why you have to have rat control regularly. Rat control involves targeting the places where rats reside and eradicating them from there.

What kind of rat do you have?

It’s hard to see rats in the house, but you can easily detect them with the traces they leave behind. In the US, there are two common types of rats found in the household. These are:

  • Norway rats – also known as brown or sewer rats, Norway rats are stocky and larger in size. They often burrow to get to your homes, and you can find their burrows along the foundations of your home or building, moist areas, gardens, and other areas usually not monitored by the owner of the building or establishment. Norway rats usually just stay underground.

  • Roof Rats – or black rats are smaller in size and have longer tails. Roof rats, as their name implies, can climb up your roofs and other high places like trees. They usually build their nests above ground, such as attics and ceilings. Although roof rats are often found in homes near a body of water, they are also as dangerous and bacteria-ridden as Norway rats.
How to get rid of them

You can do a number of steps to avoid breeding these rats in your home:
  • Be sure to stack wood at least 18 inches off the ground and away from the walls of your building.
  • Keep all food and consumables away from the reach of rodents, especially animal food.
  • Keep your garbage can lids tightly closed at all times.
  • If you want to plant bushes, plant them at least three feet from your house.
  • Don’t feed them. Be careful of fruits and vegetable scattered around your lawn or garden.
  • Be sure to use strong containers when storing food or other consumables so rats can’t chew them.
